Tesla Model 3 Trunk Harness Recall (21V-00D)

Tesla Model 3 Trunk Harness Recall (21V-00D)

Dear Customers,

You might have noticed that Tesla recently recalls more than 475,000 Model 3 regarding a trunk cable issue (Recall Number 21V-00D posted on 2021-12-21). The issue is well known for a while, and is caused by repeatedly squeezing of the cables inside the conduit that run from the trunk to the hatch. In our experience this issue would happen to very small portion of cars, and is not limited to the coaxial cable inside the conduit, but the rear view camera is more prone to worn due to its thickness and stiffness.

If you plan to bring your Tesla to have the cable being checked up, we would suggest to remove the wire that run from the trunk to the hatch and reinstall the harness after Tesla fix the harness, but since the problem would not bring up any urgent safety issues, we would suggest to wait until the rear view camera problem appear (it might never appear).

If you plan to remove the harness and reinstall the harness after, we recommend to swap to a new set of wire. We will put the harness on our site soon at cost. If you are currently using our Electric Tailgate v1 system, it would also be a good time to upgrade to our newest Mark 3.0 system.
