Tesla Model S Frunk Secondary Latch Recall (21V-00B)

Tesla Model S Frunk Secondary Latch Recall (21V-00B)

Dear Customers,

You might have heard about the recent recalls regarding Tesla Model S frunk (Recall number 21V-00B posted on 2021-12-21). According to Tesla description, the hood striker might not be able to be hooked by the secondary latch due to the fact that the latch is misaligned and installed in a relatively rear location. If the latch is misaligned according to the description, the frunk can fly up during driving if the frunk emergency button is accidentally hit by the stuff inside the frunk while driving.

You can learn more about the Tesla secondary latch protection in this video:

It is actually very easy to check if you have the misalignment issue described. To test it, open the frunk, wait for 5 minutes until the secondary latch is engaged, then close the frunk and stop the frunk before the final latching. Check if the hood striker can be hooked by the secondary latch. You can refer to this video for the check:

If the hood striker can be hooked, that means your latch is probably fine. If you do have a problem with the secondary latch, we believe that there is no need to revert the Electric Frunk system back to stock before you bring back to Tesla, as the problem is due to misalignment, but we recommend you to seek advise from your Service Advisor.
